Postcards from Vermont

I am glad I live in a world where there are Octobers!

Fall is arriving a little late this year and it’s looking beautiful than ever. We went to Vermont this past weekend to witness the green mountains in fall colors. We were able to spot the colors from far but it’s still not the peak time. We stayed for a couple of nights at the base of Mt. Killington and explored the nearby towns – Woodstock, Killington, and Stowe.

We booked a condo for 2 nights and 2 days at Mountain Green Resort at Killington. We arrived late Friday night and didn’t see the mountains very clearly. But when we woke up the next morning and saw the views from the room – we couldn’t take our eyes off of it.

Mt. Killington Peak

Our first day,  we did the gondola ride at Killington mountain and after reaching on top did a short hike to these breathtaking views. We spent some time up there but it was too windy and I wasn’t dressed appropriately to hike the whole mountain.  The rest of the day, we drove through the scenic byways in and around town. The scenes were too captivating and pictures don’t even do justice. We also did hidden drives with dirt roads to reach the various peaks of the mountains and found secret places.

Hidden Lake

We spent the next day at Stowe exploring the town and checked out a few cute stores. Later we headed to Moss Glen Falls – it was a very easy & short hike to the waterfalls. The place was all so serene. We also drove around the Green mountains and consumed all the beauty of the place.

Just Vermont things

Travel guide: A weekend in Newport, RI

Newport is the one of the prettiest towns on the New England coastline.  It’s famous for its million dollar mansions built for warm weather retreats.

We took the weekend trip to Newport on a whiff and booked Airbnb last minute. We planned to see at least two of the mansions and relax for the remaining hours.  We left on Saturday morning and went directly to the 1st Mansion – ‘The Breakers’  which is the grandest of Newport’s summer cottages and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in the turn of the century. We were mesmerized by the beauty of it. The audio tour was very informative; we spent about 2 hours listening to it, taking pictures and relaxing at the Lawn facing the sea. To know more, check out their website

What I wore in Newport

Day 1 – I wore this beautiful High-Low Blue dress to the Mansion to complement the magnificent beauty of it. The dress is from Zaful and is under $30. The material is not Chiffon as described but polyester so the quality is average. The color is really gorgeous and the dress is exactly how it looks in the picture.

Road Tripping to Cape Cod

The rising tides lift up all the boats ~ John F Kennedy

I have been wanting to go for a mini Vacation/Staycation at the Cape Cod but the sun has been hiding under the clouds. Even though last Saturday was cloudy and rainy, my husband and I decided to take a road trip to the Cape Cod.

Cape Cod, a hook-shaped peninsula of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, is a popular summertime destination. It’s the site of quaint villages, seafood shacks, lighthouses, ponds and bay and ocean beaches.

It turned out to be pretty great; it was a 2- hour drive from Boston. We directly went to Race Point beach and walked on the beach for 4 miles to the Race Point Light house and back. It was a long, tiring but a beautiful walk on the beach. We spotted a few Sea lions as well and enjoyed the cool breeze. We didn’t go in the water because it was cold that day and the water was freezing. Afterward, we went to Commercial Street to have seafood at a shack; the food was so fresh and delicious. Commercial Street was very fun and different; full of art galleries, souvenirs, gelato, and boutique shops. We strolled around for a while before we headed back to Boston. I would definitely go back to the Cape to explore the other towns on a sunny day. There are so many cute cottages and vacation homes to stay at.

About the look, I wanted to be comfortable for a day trip and yet dress appropriate for an island/beach day. I wore Bardot swing dress from Shein, it was very flowy and light. I love the style and fit of it. Expecting long walks, I wore my converse shoes with the dress. I also carried my denim jacket because the weather was in the 60’s that day. My Denim choker is from Charming Charlie.

Picnic at Castle Island

I am surprised how much Boston has to show to the world. Recently, I found out about Boston Harbor Islands and I went to one of them – Castle Island with my girlfriends. Castle Island is located on Day Boulevard in South Boston on the shore of Boston Harbor. It is currently a 22-acre recreation site. It’s a perfect little summer world in itself; beaches, picnic spots, a huge area for games, beautiful sunsets and recreational activities including Kitesurfing. It’s easier to get there and has a lot of parking in different sections of the island. We spent about 3-4 hours at this place sitting by the water, playing card games and having light snacks. We took some fun pictures while exploring the area.

For this day, I chose to wear a beautiful and Vibrant Maxi dress by Shein. It’s a high-low, halter style dress with color block design. I am impressed with this online brand, the quality of the products for the price, and quick delivery. I am also very excited to style my first Austin earrings by Charming Charlie. I love the color contrast in this piece and it is a great accessory for the summer.

A day trip to Martha’s Vineyard

We recently took a day trip to Martha’s Vineyard during the Memorial Day long weekend. It was our first time exploring the New England besides Boston. The image below pretty much sums up the things to see/do in this island.

Source : Pinterest/Google Images

Martha’s Vineyard is an island located south of Cape Cod in Massachusetts that is known for being an affluent summer colony. You can only travel there by air or by boat. We decided to go with Steamship Authority  and booking tickets were easy.

We drove to the woods hole and take the ferry from there. If you need to take your car with you in the ferry, you need to purchase the tickets in advance. But if you’re planning to rent a car or bike in Martha’s Vineyard, you can just show up at the steamship authority ferry terminal and buy the tickets there. The round trip ticket per adult is just $16 from Woods hole to Martha’s Vineyard. The schedules are available online.

Here’s the schedule until June 14-  Ferry Schedule – Martha’s Vineyard

View from the Ferry

The ferry ride is just 45 mins and you can choose your destination as “Oak Bluffs” or “Vineyard Haven”. Martha’s Vineyard has 7 small towns, scenic beaches, beautiful light houses and pretty houses. Not to mention, the boutique shops and the seafood.

We took a car with us in the ferry because we were travelling with family. We took a ferry to Oak Bluffs, but we drove to Vineyard Haven to spend some time exploring the streets, boutique shops etc. My sister got a henna tattoo done from Bridgette of of Maple Mehndi. If you are there, be sure to check her out. She is a wonderful artist.

Then, of course, we had to check out the Amazing light houses – there are 3 in Martha’s Vineyard. We went to Gay Head Light House based in Aquinnah and Gay head cliffs. We spent some time at the light house, then we took a trail from there to the Gay head cliffs where you see endless water view and the light house from far. We couldn’t really enjoy the beaches because it was little cold that day. But if you go on a sunny day, make sure to spend some time at the scenic beaches. On a side note, this light house makes the perfect place for pictures – engagement pictures, family portraits etc.

After that, we headed to Edgartown – it has a completely different vibe than Vineyard Haven. Beautiful Gingerbread houses, Breweries and another Light house. We mostly drove around town and then had lunch at Sharky’s Cantina. We also stopped by a beach on the way to Oak bluffs.

Finally, we went back to Oak bluffs near our terminal to spend last hour before we headed back to Boston. Oak bluffs is known for Ice cream and Pizza, there were at least 5 ice cream shops in the same street. We had to try ice cream, so we went to Mad Martha’s Ice cream shop. The Street outside the terminal had bike rentals, surf shops, clothing stores and more.

However, I would recommend a 2 day stay at Martha’s if you’re coming from far.

Las Vegas – Outfits of the week

I just spent a fun and warm week in Vegas, just strolling at the Las Vegas strip, exploring so many different themed casinos, pool parties and what not. It’s so fascinating that a desert area is converted into the entertainment capital of the world. I can do a separate post about “travel” part of Vegas but this post is exclusive to Fashion and styling ideas. I wanted to share the outfits I wore while I was there.

Outfit 1- The classic airport look

This is my go-to airport look, and it doesn’t take any effort to pull this off. You just need a comfy top and leggings – just basics from your existing wardrobe. I usually carry a jacket with me because I feel cold in the plane and it works for the colder evenings. Don’t forget walking shoes- it is a must for the trip.

Leather Jacket – I bought this Jacket last fall and loving it ever since. It’s from Urban Outfitters (Sold out, similar – Here).

Slouchy white top – The top is from Primark, just something I picked up recently. You cannot have too many white tops.

Pants/leggings– My pants/leggings are from Zara (Here), I have had them since 4 years now and they are not worn off yet. I love the thickness of the leggings/pants and they are very much comfortable.

Shoes– I bought them from DSW because it’s one stop shop for shoes. But you can also buy them online from the Converse website. Converse (Here)

Outfit 2 – Strolling around the strip and casinos

This outfit was my favorite from the trip. I loved everything about it – The feel of this fabric, it was airy, off the shoulder, and perfect spring Marigold color. I also experimented it with wearing a corset belt and it just changed the whole look of it. I loved how it looked.

Yellow Off the shoulder Swing Dress – I picked this dress up in the store, honestly I wasn’t sure at first but when I tried it on, I couldn’t let it go.  It’s from forever 21- Here

Wide elastic corset Belt – I ordered this Asos (Here ) belt online just before this trip, I was really excited to style this. I love how it cinches your waist. It does get uncomfortable if you wear it for long.

Backpack – Kate Spade (Sold out, Similar Here )

Yellow thong sandals – Bought these from Primark Here. Just to add to my wardrobe and it matched perfectly with the dress.

Outfit 3 – Most fun outfit- very summery

Top – I bought this really cute, Pineapple print, scoop neck crop top from Primark. They had so many colors and different prints in them. It was very comfortable. I can’t find them on Primark website but it’s available in stores. Similar (here).

Shorts – These shorts are from Primark too, these are distressed denim high-waist shorts. Again, I can’t find them on the website but these are available in stores. Similar linked (Here)

Outfit 4 – Watching a show at Bellagio – Cirque du Soleil

Maxi Dress – I have been wanting to buy something from “Who what wear” collection at Target stores. I finally found this casual and classy Knit Skater Maxi Dress (Here). I styled them with red pumps and wore it to the show at Bellagio in the night. It was perfect for the occasion.

Red suede pumps – I adore these pumps from Charlotte Russe, sold out (similar Here). I bought them for Valentine’s Day but they work great all year round.

Outfit 5 – Heading to pool party

Navy shift dress– The attire for pool party was Swim wear only, I forgot to carry my cover-up for Bikini so I just wore this shift dress from Charlotte Russe, Sold out – Similar (Here, Here). It was nice and flowy. But it does make a cool summer outfit for a casual day.

Straw Hat – Now this was also a special purchase for me, I so wanted to buy a straw hat with some slogan on it. I found just perfect Hat before my trip. It says “Vacay”, how cool is that! It is from Asos – sold out (Here , similar Here )

Navy shift dress- Charlotte Russe, Sold out – Similar (Here, Here)

Outfit 6 –  Exploring the place

Bardot Top – I recently bought a lot of crop tops from Primark, they were all priced from $4-$6. Yes, it’s hard to believe. The quality is average but everything is really trendy. I couldn’t find this print online but   similar options are here.

High Waist shorts – These shorts are from Primark too, everything at Primark is priced low. They are distressed denim high-waist shorts. Again, I can’t find them on the website but these are available in stores. Similar linked (Here)

Outfit 7 – Post pool party outfit

Scoop neck Red crop top – This one is similar to the one above in Pineapple print. It’s from Primark and I love the pop of color.

Denim skirt– This frayed denim skirt was a steal because I bought this in winter sale and it costed me only $7. It’s from H&M and I love the fit of it.  This was is sold out but similar Here.

Outfit 8 – Classic stripes

Black striped cami dress – This is the most casual and comfortable outfit for warmer weather. I wore this the day we arrived in Vegas after a 7 hour flight. This one is from Primark and I have already worn this thrice since then.

Thanks for reading my post. :))

Ice Castles – Lincoln, NH

Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care
what they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on.
The cold never bothered me anyway

Yes, this is the song that truly explains my experience at Ice Castles, NH. Magical, enchanting and straight out of fairy tales is what Ice castles are.

I stumbled upon pictures of Ice Castles when I was searching for easy winter activities to do. Since I do not know Ice Skating or Skiing, Ice Castles made to my bucket list. This would technically be my 2nd winter in Boston, but this year I have had more time to enjoy it rather than curse it :P.  The more I researched, the more magical and enchanting it looked in the pictures but I was amazed to see much more beauty in person.

Since I found out about it pretty late, most days tickets were sold out. We finally were able to get tickets for Sunday, 12th Feb and we booked it about a week ago. We hadn’t seen the storm coming on Sunday and the most difficult part was to get there in the snow storm. It was about 2.5 hour drive from Boston and it took us way more than that. As soon as we reached, we spent most beautiful 30 mins of the day inside the Castles. They played music from the movie “Frozen” and it was magical.

As the name suggests, the castles are made of Ice. There were slides, tunnels and the throne – all made of Ice. Here are the few pictures –

The Throne – made of Ice

And yes, I took full advantage of making my own fairy tale and I wore a gown to the place, took some pictures.

P.S.  You must wear snow boots and dress up in winter coats/jackets. I was wearing leg warmers inside and wore snow boots which are hiding in the pictures. I removed my coat for just 15-20 seconds to take these pictures and I was freezing.

I would definitely recommend making a visit there if you’re in East coast, Ice Castles have many locations. Do check out their website.

All opinions are my own 🙂
